Reed has a long criminal record, spanning over 30 years. Reports indicate he has been arrested about 72 times, many for violent crimes. He has multiple felony convictions, including aggravated arson for allegedly setting a fire outside the Thompson Center in 2020. Despite this criminal history, he often received lenient sentences. Three days before the train attack, another incident occurred. Reed is accused of attempting to set CHICAGO City Hall on fire on November 14th. Mayor Brandon Johnson confirmed the arson attempt, stating the fire did not spread and caused no significant damage. Johnson condemned the violence, emphasizing it has no place in politics. Reed was indicted for this attempt, adding to the charges for which this Chicago Man Charged is now facing.

Other Violent Incidents and Chicago Man Charged

Reed’s alleged violence is not limited to these events. He faces charges for a March 27th attack where he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a woman on a Blue Line train. When a man tried to intervene, Reed battered him. He was taken for a mental health evaluation after this incident, but charges were not immediately filed. This case is part of a HEADLINE of public safety concerns that led to the Chicago Man Charged status.

Reed’s history raises serious questions about systemic failures. With around 72 arrests and fewer convictions, many cases were dismissed. His electronic monitoring for a previous charge failed to prevent the train attack, highlighting how the system did not adequately address his mental health issues or prevent further violent crimes. His case is a stark example of these gaps, and the NEWS highlights these ongoing issues, making the Chicago Man Charged status a focal point.

Legal Proceedings: Chicago Man Charged

Reed faces federal terrorism charges for the train attack. The attempted arson at City Hall is a new federal charge. He also faces state charges for the March assault. He made unusual courtroom appearances, repeatedly shouting “I plead guilty!”.
