CHICAGO, IL – Travel + Leisure Co. announced plans for a new Sports Illustrated Resorts location in the heart of Chicago, Illinois, marking the third expansion for the sports-themed hospitality brand. The resort, a conversion of an existing hotel in the vibrant Loop district, is set to open in late 2026 and aims to immerse guests in the city’s rich sports culture and dynamic atmosphere. This latest development reinforces Travel + Leisure Co.’s strategy to expand its portfolio into unique lifestyle travel experiences.

The upcoming Sports Illustrated Resort will be located along the Chicago River, just a block from the famed Michigan Avenue. The existing hotel property will undergo a significant renovation, transforming approximately 250 units into a unique sports-inspired destination. A key design element will be the preservation of the building’s historic grand staircase in the lobby, which will be reimagined with contemporary, sports-themed design elements and striking imagery that celebrates the legacy of Sports Illustrated. The property will remain operational during the renovation period, allowing guests to experience a “preseason era” this winter before the full brand offerings are unveiled.

Enhanced Amenities and Culinary Experiences

Beyond its prime location and thematic design, the Chicago resort will feature a suite of new amenities designed to cater to both owners and guests. These include an exclusive owner’s lounge for a more personalized experience and a signature fitness center. The property will also introduce a diverse range of modern food and beverage venues. Guests can anticipate a vibrant street-level coffee shop, an inviting full-service restaurant offering quality dining, and a lively sports bar perfect for game day gatherings. Each venue is crafted to complement the energetic spirit of Chicago and the Sports Illustrated brand, providing ample opportunities to enjoy exceptional food and drink.

Points-Based Ownership and Brand Expansion

This new Chicago location represents the third Sports Illustrated Resorts property, joining existing sites in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Nashville, Tennessee. The resort will offer flexible, points-based ownership options, with sales scheduled to commence in early next year. This expansion aligns with Travel + Leisure Co.’s broader multi-brand strategy to diversify its portfolio and cater to evolving lifestyle traveler demands. The vision for Sports Illustrated Resorts is to provide immersive sports-centric experiences, combining the brand’s rich storytelling heritage with upscale hospitality in fan-favorite destinations.
