The United States military has struck a key Iranian drone carrier. This action occurred amid an intensified offensive. US forces confirmed the strike on March 5, 2026. The vessel is now ablaze.

CENTCOM announced the successful strike. Admiral Brad Cooper leads US Central Command. He stated American bombers hit nearly 200 targets inside Iran. These strikes occurred within the last 72 hours. They included targets near Tehran. This offensive significantly degrades Iran’s war capabilities.

The struck ship is identified as the IRIS Shahid Bagheri. It is Iran’s first full-service drone carrier. This vessel is a converted container ship. Its conversion took several years. It was commissioned in early 2025. The ship is remarkably large. It measures roughly the size of a World War II aircraft carrier. Its length is over 240 meters.

Operation Epic Fury Intensifies

This strike is part of “Operation Epic Fury.” It is a broad US-Israeli military campaign. The operation began around February 28, 2026. The campaign targets Iranian military infrastructure. This includes leadership, naval assets, and missile sites. US forces aim to neutralize Iran’s offensive capabilities.

Declining Iranian Attacks

Admiral Cooper reported significant success. Iranian ballistic missile attacks have dropped by 90 percent. Drone attacks have decreased by 83 percent. This reduction follows the intense US strikes. Iran’s ability to counter-attack has been severely weakened. This is a major development in current military news.

Iran’s Naval Power Degraded

The US Navy has sunk over 30 Iranian vessels. The loss of the Shahid Bagheri is a major blow. This drone carrier was key for Iran’s power projection. It enabled extended drone operations offshore. The vessel could launch various drones and helicopters. It was also armed with missiles. Its destruction severely limits Iran’s sea-based power.

Strategic Implications

This ongoing conflict is a significant trending news topic. The US objective is clear. They aim to dismantle Iran’s missile industry. They also seek to annihilate Iran’s navy. This offensive reduces Iran’s capacity for retaliation. It also degrades their ability to rebuild military strength. US forces are establishing air superiority. They are penetrating deeper into Iranian territory.

The United States has deployed substantial military assets. This includes multiple carrier strike groups. The offensive aims to prevent future Iranian aggression. It also targets Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The situation remains highly volatile. The intensified offensive marks a critical juncture. It underscores the current geopolitical tensions.
