C. P. Radhakrishnan Assumes Office as India’s 15th Vice-President

New Delhi: The hallowed halls of Rashtrapati Bhavan witnessed the swearing-in of Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan as the 15th Vice-President of India on September 12, 2025. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Mr. Radhakrishnan, a seasoned politician with deep roots in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Radhakrishnan secured victory in the vice-presidential election held on September 9, 2025, garnering 452 votes against the INDIA bloc candidate, former Supreme Court Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, who secured 300 votes. This election was necessitated by the resignation of the previous Vice-President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, on July 21, 2025.

Born on May 4, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, C. P. Radhakrishnan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. His extensive political career spans over four decades, beginning as a student leader and an RSS Swayamsevak. He served as a two-time Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Coimbatore in 1998 and 1999. Prior to his election as Vice-President, Radhakrishnan held gubernatorial roles, serving as the Governor of Jharkhand (February 2023 – July 2024) and Maharashtra (July 2024 – September 2025), with brief additional charges as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. He also chaired the Coir Board from 2016 to 2020, overseeing a significant increase in coir exports. His election marks a significant milestone, with Radhakrishnan being the third leader from Tamil Nadu to hold the prestigious post of Vice-President.

Manhunt Intensifies for Suspect in Charlie Kirk Assassination

Meanwhile, in the United States, authorities are actively pursuing leads in the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist, author, and media personality. Kirk, the influential co-founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, while addressing an event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah.

The FBI, working with local law enforcement, has identified a suspect in the killing as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. Robinson was apprehended in Washington County early on September 12, 2025, following a tip from a family member who alerted authorities after Robinson allegedly confessed or implied involvement. The FBI had released surveillance video and photos of a person of interest, offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to an arrest. A rifle believed to be used in the shooting was recovered in a wooded area near the campus.

Kirk, a key figure in the populist MAGA movement and a vocal conservative voice, was known for his campus organizing and media presence. His killing has sent shockwaves through political circles, highlighting the increasing instances of political violence in the U.S.. Investigators are examining all aspects of the incident, including the shooter’s alleged confession and the recovery of a unique, engraved rifle and casings.

In related international news, tensions remain elevated as Russia and Belarus commenced a large-scale joint military exercise, codenamed “Zapad-2025,” near the NATO border. This exercise follows Poland’s interception of suspected Russian drones, prompting increased security measures and border closures between Poland and Belarus.

Additionally, concerns are mounting over potential trade war escalations as China has issued a warning to Mexico regarding its proposed plan to significantly increase tariffs on Chinese vehicles to 50%. This move by Mexico, aimed at protecting its domestic industries and potentially appeasing the U.S., has drawn sharp criticism from Beijing, which threatened countermeasures that could impact bilateral trade worth billions.
