CHICAGO, IL – Summer nights in Chicago are once again transforming public parks into vibrant outdoor cinemas as the acclaimed “Films on the Green” series returns for its 2025 season. This annual event, presented in partnership with the Chicago Park District, invites residents and visitors to experience the intersection of cinema and culture under the stars, focusing this year on the enduring influence of French fashion as depicted through four iconic films.

The series, which runs from June 20 to July 15, 2025, offers free public screenings in various green spaces across the city. Each film is shown at sunset and includes English subtitles, ensuring accessibility for a broad audience.

A Cinematic Celebration of Style

The 2025 theme, centered on French fashion, explores how style has been portrayed and shaped within the French cinematic landscape. This curated selection provides a unique lens through which to view both film history and the evolution of Parisian chic.

The series commenced on June 20 with a screening of “Coco Before Chanel” at Osterman Beach Park, delving into the early life of the legendary designer. This was followed on June 26 by the classic musical “The Young Girls of Rochefort” at Belmont Harbor Park, showcasing vibrant style alongside song and dance.

Featured Screening: “Haute Couture”

As the series continues its progression, one featured film, “Haute Couture,” is scheduled for viewing today, July 7, 2025. This particular film tells the compelling story of a young thief who finds herself working alongside a retired Dior seamstress, offering a glimpse into the intricate world of high fashion craftsmanship and mentorship.

The screening of “Haute Couture” is taking place this evening at Lake Shore Park, located within the city of Chicago. Like all films in the series, admission is free and open to the public, with the projection set to begin as dusk settles over the park.

Concluding the Series

The Films on the Green series will draw to a close later this month. The final screening is slated for July 15 and will feature the film “How to Be a Good Wife” at Montgomery Ward Park. This closing event provides one last opportunity for the public to engage with the series’ theme and enjoy a film outdoors in a community setting.

Part of a Broader Initiative

Films on the Green is a key component of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks program. This initiative is designed to activate neighborhood parks citywide, offering diverse cultural programming that is free and accessible to all residents. By bringing events like outdoor film screenings directly into communities, the program fosters a sense of connection and provides enriching experiences close to home.

The realization of the Films on the Green 2025 series is made possible through the generous support of its sponsors. Contributing organizations include JC Decaux, TV5MONDE, and Alliance française de Chicago. Their commitment helps ensure that this cultural offering remains free and available to the public.

Residents are encouraged to consult the Chicago Park District‘s official schedule or the Films on the Green program details for specific park addresses and any potential updates. The series offers a unique way to enjoy cinematic art, appreciate French culture and fashion, and experience Chicago’s beautiful parks during the summer season.
