DAVOS, Switzerland – LightSolver, a company pioneering a novel approach to high-performance computing (HPC) utilizing laser interactions, has been recognized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a 2025 Technology Pioneer.

The selection, announced on June 23, 2025, places LightSolver among a cohort of 100 early-stage technology companies globally acknowledged for their potential to address significant global challenges through innovation. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the WEF’s Technology Pioneer program, a prestigious initiative identifying companies at the forefront of breakthrough technologies and business models.

Revolutionizing High-Performance Computing

LightSolver is developing a new paradigm in computing centered around its proprietary all-optical Laser Processing Unit™ (LPU). Unlike traditional electronic processors, the LPU leverages the complex physical interactions of lasers to perform computations. This optical approach is designed to tackle computationally intensive problems that are currently challenging, or even intractable, for conventional computers.

The company’s technology is specifically engineered to deliver high-speed and energy-efficient computation, critical factors in an era of growing data complexity and sustainability concerns. The LPU excels at solving complex problems such as combinatorial optimization, which involves finding the best possible solution from a vast number of options (common in logistics, finance, and resource allocation), and computer-aided engineering (CAE) simulations, vital for design, analysis, and validation across industries from aerospace to automotive.

Traditional HPC systems, while powerful, often consume significant amounts of energy and face physical limitations in scaling speed for certain types of problems. LightSolver’s optical method offers a potential pathway to overcome these hurdles, providing a faster and more sustainable alternative for specific demanding computational tasks.

Recognition and Mission Validation

Being named a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer is a significant endorsement of LightSolver’s innovative approach and its potential global impact. The program is known for selecting companies poised to make a substantial mark on industries and society.

Ruti Ben-Shlomi, CEO and co-founder of LightSolver, commented on the recognition, stating, “Being selected as a WEF Technology Pioneer is a profound validation of our work and our vision. It powerfully reinforces our mission to advance the field of optical computing and bring its transformative capabilities to bear on some of the world’s most complex computational problems.”

The WEF’s selection process involves evaluating companies based on criteria including innovation, potential impact, leadership, and relevance to the forum’s initiatives.

Engaging with Global Leaders

As a 2025 Technology Pioneer, LightSolver will gain access to the WEF’s extensive network and participate in various forum activities throughout the year. A key aspect of this engagement will be joining the WEF’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

This centre serves as a hub for global multi-stakeholder collaboration, focusing on the policy and governance challenges raised by advanced technologies. By integrating into this centre, LightSolver will have the opportunity to collaborate directly with policymakers, business leaders, civil society representatives, and experts from around the world.

This collaboration aims to help shape the future trajectory of advanced computing technologies, explore their ethical implications, and identify ways they can be leveraged most effectively to address urgent global issues, from climate change to healthcare and economic inequality.

Looking Ahead

LightSolver’s inclusion in the WEF Technology Pioneer community signals a growing recognition of optical computing’s potential to reshape the landscape of high-performance computation. The platform provided by the World Economic Forum offers LightSolver a unique opportunity to accelerate the development and adoption of its LPU technology, fostering partnerships and contributing to global dialogues on the role of frontier technologies in building a sustainable and prosperous future.
