BURBANK, Calif. — Disney+ has offered subscribers and the wider viewing public a glimpse into its ambitious programming schedule for 2025, releasing a “Coming Soon in 2025” promotional clip that highlights several highly anticipated original series and returning favorites. Among the key titles featured are the eagerly awaited new series set within the iconic Alien universe, officially titled “Alien: Earth,” and a limited series inspired by the complex legal case of Amanda Knox.

The preview underscores Disney’s strategy across its streaming and linear platforms, showcasing content destined for Disney+ as well as affiliated outlets like FX and Hulu.

Expanding the Alien Universe with “Alien: Earth”

Science fiction enthusiasts are particularly anticipating the arrival of “Alien: Earth,” a series poised to delve deeper into the terrifying world first brought to life in Ridley Scott’s 1979 cinematic landmark, “Alien.” The series is specifically set in the year 2120, placing its narrative timeline approximately two decades before the events of the original film. This chronological positioning allows the series to explore new facets of the universe prior to key established events.

Key plot details revealed thus far indicate that “Alien: Earth” will center on the discovery of “mysterious life forms,” hinting at the potentially horrifying encounters that define the franchise. The series boasts an ensemble cast featuring notable talent, including Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adrian Admondson, David Rysdahl, Essie Davis, Lily Newmark, Erana James, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Kit Young, Diem Camille, Moe Bar-El, and Sandra Yi Sencindiver. This new chapter in the saga is slated for release on Aug. 12, 2025, and will be available for viewing on both the FX network and the Hulu streaming service.

A Dramatic Look at the Amanda Knox Story

Another prominent title highlighted in the 2025 preview is the limited series “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.” This drama is described as being “inspired by the story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the tragic murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, and her journey to set herself free.” The series aims to navigate the controversial and widely publicized events surrounding the death of Meredith Kercher and the subsequent legal proceedings involving Amanda Knox.

The cast bringing this complex narrative to the screen includes Grace Van Patten, Sharon Horgan, John Hoogenakker, Francesco Acquaroli, Giuseppe De Domenico, and Roberta Mattei. “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox” is scheduled to debut shortly after the Alien series, with a release date set for Aug. 20, 2025.

Returning Favorites and New Ventures

Beyond the highly anticipated new series, Disney+’s 2025 slate will see the return of popular franchises and the launch of new projects from renowned creators. Fans of the fantasy adventure series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” can look forward to Season 2, which is expected to arrive in December 2025. The platform has already demonstrated confidence in the series by ordering a third season, signaling a long-term commitment to the adaptation of Rick Riordan’s novels.

The preview also offered a glimpse of a new legal drama from prolific producer Ryan Murphy, titled “All’s Fair.” This series is set to feature a star-studded cast, including Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash, and Teyana Taylor, promising a high-profile exploration of the legal world. “All’s Fair” is slated for release in the fall of 2025.

Additional titles teased in the “Coming Soon in 2025” clip include the previously announced series “Chad Powers” and “Wonder Man,” further diversifying the content offerings across genres for the upcoming year.

Overall, the 2025 preview from Disney+ signals a year packed with significant new entries into established universes, explorations of real-life events, and returning hits, reinforcing the platform’s position in the competitive streaming landscape.
