Zaza’s Pizzeria, a Chicago establishment known for its New York-style pies with a Neapolitan flair, is set to open a second location in Lincoln Park. Situated at 1521 N. Fremont St., in the former Pizzeria Bebu space, this expansion marks a significant step for brothers Chadd and Brett Nemec, who launched their first Zaza’s in Lakeview in 2021. Inspired by years of exploring pizzerias across New York City, the Nemec brothers have cultivated a loyal following with their signature crust – a 48-hour fermented dough that is both chewy and crispy, brushed with rosemary-garlic olive oil and finished with Maldon sea salt. Their commitment to high-quality ingredients, including Stanislaus plum tomatoes and Grande mozzarella, elevates each pie. The new Lincoln Park outpost promises to feature many of the original’s beloved specialty pizzas, alongside new additions unique to the Fremont Street location. This move solidifies Zaza’s growing presence in Chicago’s competitive pizza scene.

Honey Butter Fried Chicken Serves Up Coastal Vibes at Social Pickleball

A unique dining concept is on the horizon as Honey Butter Fried Chicken prepares to open its coastal-inspired eatery, Honey Butter Beach Club, within Social Pickleball Fun (SPF), Chicago’s premier indoor pickleball and lifestyle club. Located at 2121 N. Clybourn Ave. in Lincoln Park, the new spot from Honey Butter Fried Chicken co-founders Christine Cikowski and Josh Kulp aims to bring a fresh, beachy twist to their renowned comfort food. Patrons can anticipate fan favorites alongside new offerings such as wild-caught fried shrimp baskets and a “Pickle Prince” dip platter. Scheduled for a September opening, Honey Butter Beach Club will be accessible to the public, offering counter service, takeout, and delivery, further integrating culinary experiences with recreational activities in the city.

Lincoln Park Welcomes Dimmi Dimmi Corner Italian

Lincoln Park has a new Italian-American destination with the opening of Dimmi Dimmi Corner Italian at 1112 W. Armitage Ave. This new restaurant takes over the former Tarantino’s space, a neighborhood fixture for three decades. Led by Executive Chef Matt Eckfeld, who honed his skills at renowned New York establishments like Carbone and ZZ’s Club, Dimmi Dimmi offers a fresh take on Italian-American classics. The menu features handmade pastas, artisanal pizzas, and shareable antipasti, with highlights like Italian beef-style carpaccio and classic entrees. The restaurant, brought to life by Cornerstone Restaurant Group, aims to be a warm and welcoming neighborhood gathering spot, blending Eckfeld’s modern culinary approach with nostalgic Italian-American comfort.

Moon Star Kitchen & Bar Shines in Old Town

Old Town’s dining scene welcomes Moon Star Kitchen & Bar, a new venture from the Vaughan Hospitality Group. Located across from the iconic Second City at 1617 N. Wells Street, Moon Star offers a polished yet casual atmosphere. The menu emphasizes shareable plates and familiar dishes with creative twists, including options like scallops, steak, and crab wontons. Complementing the food is a curated beverage program featuring original cocktails. This opening further diversifies the offerings from Vaughan Hospitality, a group also responsible for establishments like Corcoran’s Grill & Pub, Chicago Brewhouse, and Vaughan’s Pubs.

Chef John Asbaty’s Hearth-Driven Vision Takes Shape

Veteran chef John Asbaty, known for his collaborations including RH’s 3 Arts Club Café, is set to open a new restaurant named Ox Bar & Hearth. Located at 1578 N. Clybourn Ave. in Lincoln Park, this upcoming venture, developed with restaurateur Alain Uy, will center around a wood-burning hearth. The restaurant plans to highlight Midwestern ingredients with an elevated approach to regional comfort food. While an opening date is still to be announced, the concept promises an intimate dining experience with a focus on seasonal ingredients and Asbaty’s distinctive culinary touch. This addition represents a continued trend of chefs building upon established relationships and culinary philosophies.

These recent developments underscore a dynamic period for Chicago’s North Side restaurant community. With expansions, innovative partnerships, and new culinary visions emerging, the area continues to cement its reputation as a must-visit destination for food lovers across the city. This surge in new food establishments reflects the enduring resilience and creativity of Chicago’s restaurant industry.
