Chicago, IL – Summer 2025 is poised to mark a significant period of growth for Chicago’s renowned dining and nightlife landscape, with several highly anticipated new restaurants and bars slated to open their doors across the city. The influx of new concepts is expected to further solidify Chicago’s position as a premier culinary destination, introducing diverse offerings ranging from Italian fare with a focus on amaro to expansive multi-concept venues.

Noteworthy Additions to the South Loop

Among the prominent openings is Buttercup, set to debut in the South Loop. This venue is envisioned as an all-day cafe and cocktail bar, emphasizing Italian fare. A key element of Buttercup’s beverage program will be its focus on amaro, a category of Italian herbal liqueurs known for their complex profiles. The culinary direction for Buttercup will be guided by chef Alex Carnovale, while the beverage program, including the amaro focus and broader mixology efforts, will be overseen by beverage director Luke DeYoung. The arrival of Buttercup adds a new dimension to the South Loop’s evolving residential and commercial corridor.

Lincoln Park is also set to welcome a notable new establishment this summer with the opening of Ox Bar & Hearth. This project represents a collaboration between chef John Asbaty and restaurateur Alain Uy. Ox Bar & Hearth is expected to specialize in Midwestern fare, offering a culinary perspective rooted in the region’s ingredients and traditions. Complementing the food menu will be a carefully curated beverage list, designed to pair with the Midwestern dishes. The partnership between Asbaty and Uy brings together distinct talents aiming to contribute a unique voice to the Lincoln Park dining scene.

A Multifaceted Destination in Bucktown

One of the most ambitious projects opening this summer is Wolf & Company, located in the Bucktown neighborhood at 1752 N. Western Ave. This expansive venue, spanning approximately 10,000 sq ft, is set to open its doors on Monday, June 23, 2025. Wolf & Company comes from the team behind successful Chicago establishments Little Bad Wolf and Gretel, including partners Sol Ashbach, Gus Lappas, and Ankur Joshi. The scale and concept of Wolf & Company are significant, offering a variety of experiences under one roof.

The venue boasts direct access to the popular 606 trail, promising to attract both neighborhood residents and trail users. The core of Wolf & Company includes a full-service restaurant, where executive chef Graham Akroyd will lead the kitchen. In addition to the dining area, the space will feature a dedicated cocktail bar, an all-day cafe catering to various times of day, and a market. Notably, the market will include a butcher, indicating a commitment to quality ingredients and potentially offering retail options for patrons. A patio will also be part of the offering, providing outdoor seating during the warmer months. The combination of dining, drinking, retail, and cafe services positions Wolf & Company as a major new hub for Bucktown.

Elevated Dining Experience in Logan Square

Further contributing to the summer openings is Feverdream, situated at 3152 W. Diversey Ave. in the space formerly occupied by Thank You. This new venture hails from Milkhorse Hospitality, a group that includes chef Mark Steuer, Kelsey Kasper, and Jason Turley. Feverdream is expected to bring a refined approach to the area’s dining scene, focusing on sophisticated plating and presentation. The beverage program will feature inspired cocktails, designed to complement the culinary offerings. Furthermore, the team at Feverdream has indicated a commitment to sustainable practices in their operations, reflecting growing trends in the restaurant industry towards environmental responsibility.

Impact on Chicago’s Urban Fabric

The collective arrival of these establishments underscores the dynamic nature of Chicago’s urban centers. From the South Loop’s burgeoning residential density to the established neighborhood charm of Lincoln Park, the vibrant community feel of Bucktown with its connectivity via the 606 trail, and the continuously evolving character of Logan Square, these new venues are strategically positioned to serve diverse clientele and contribute to the local economies. The variety of concepts – from all-day cafes and focused bars to multifaceted retail and dining destinations – highlights the complexity and richness of the city’s current culinary expansion.

As Chicago prepares for the summer of 2025, these planned openings signal continued investment and innovation within its hospitality sector. Each venue brings its unique identity and expertise, promising to enrich the city’s already celebrated food and beverage scene and offer residents and visitors alike new experiences to explore.
