Current News: PM Modi Champions ‘Vocal for Local’ Amidst Inauguration; Patna Court Orders Congress to Remove AI Video

In a day marked by significant national developments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, urged citizens and traders alike to prioritize the purchase and sale of domestically manufactured goods. This call for self-reliance, a cornerstone of the ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Swadeshi’ movements, was made as he laid the foundation stone for the country’s first Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Minister Modi’s address at the inauguration of the PM MITRA Park in Dhar underscored the government’s commitment to bolstering India’s textile sector and overall manufacturing capabilities. The PM MITRA scheme aims to establish large-scale textile manufacturing hubs with world-class infrastructure across seven states, with the Dhar facility being the first to break ground. Inspired by the Prime Minister’s ‘5F’ vision—Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Factory, Factory to Fashion, and Fashion to Foreign—the initiative is designed to create an integrated textile value chain in a single location. This integration is expected to significantly reduce logistics and manufacturing costs, making Indian textile products more competitive globally and attracting substantial domestic and foreign investment. Officials anticipate that each park, including the one in Dhar spread over approximately 2,158 acres, will generate significant employment opportunities, with projections suggesting up to one lakh direct and two lakh indirect jobs per park, and potentially up to three lakh jobs for the Dhar project alone. The government is investing heavily in these parks, signalling a strategic push towards making India a global textile manufacturing powerhouse.

‘Vocal for Local’ Movement Gains Momentum

Accompanying the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi reiterated his strong advocacy for the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, a movement he first championed in 2020 to promote self-reliance and boost domestic production under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. He emphasized that during the ongoing festive season, it is imperative for citizens to support Indian-made products, drawing parallels with Mahatma Gandhi’s use of the Swadeshi movement for national independence. The Prime Minister urged the 140 crore countrymen to ensure that whatever they buy or sell is made in India, aiming to transform local products into global brands by fostering national pride and consistent consumer support.

Patna High Court Directs Removal of AI-Generated Video

In a separate but significant development concerning the use of technology in political discourse, the Patna High Court on Wednesday ordered the Congress party to immediately remove an AI-generated video from all its social media platforms. The controversial 36-second video, posted by the Bihar Congress unit on September 10, 2025, depicted a dream sequence where Prime Minister Modi’s late mother purportedly criticizes his politics. The court, citing potential violations of privacy and dignity guidelines, directed social media intermediaries to prevent further circulation of the content, acknowledging the concerns raised in a public interest litigation. The directive came amidst strong condemnation from political rivals, including the BJP and JD(U), who labelled the video as ‘dirty politics’ and an insult.

AI and the Evolving Landscape of Political Campaigns

The Patna High Court’s intervention highlights the increasing challenges posed by AI-generated content and deepfakes in political campaigning. While the Congress defended the video as an attempt at maternal guidance rather than disrespect, the incident underscores a broader trend of AI’s integration into electoral strategies. Legal and ethical debates surrounding the use of such technologies are gaining traction, with the Election Commission of India already issuing advisories for mandatory labelling of AI-generated content in campaigns to ensure transparency and prevent misinformation. Existing Indian laws address aspects of defamation and digital misuse, but the regulatory framework for AI-generated content is still evolving, as indicated by discussions around a potential Digital India Act. The court’s order serves as a crucial reminder of the need for responsible use of artificial intelligence in public life, particularly during politically sensitive times. This news is currently trending as an important development in Indian politics and policy. The integration of these two current news items paints a picture of a nation focused on economic self-sufficiency and grappling with the ethical implications of emerging technologies.

This comprehensive approach to national development and the legal oversight of digital content reflects the dynamic nature of trending news in India today. The ongoing efforts to boost local manufacturing, coupled with judicial scrutiny over AI misuse, are shaping the current discourse and future trajectory of the nation.
