This September, Chicago audiences are invited to explore the unsettling yet darkly humorous intersection of revenge, faith, and desire with the premiere of “Ghost Fetus” at Trap Door Theatre. The production, running from September 11th to 27th, 2025, is part of the theatre’s innovative Trap Open Series, which champions emerging artists and experimental works.

Written by Chicago playwright Suz Evans and directed by Anna Klos, “Ghost Fetus” promises a thought-provoking theatrical experience. The narrative centers on a ghost seeking retribution, a conflicted church, and two queer teenagers grappling with profound questions of faith, fear, and their own identities. The play delves into themes that are both deeply personal and universally resonant, offering a unique perspective on belief systems and personal reckoning.

The Creative Forces Behind “Ghost Fetus”

Suz Evans, the playwright, is known for creating work that examines the impacts of cultural moments and personal upbringing, often drawing from their own experiences with a fundamental Christian background. Director Anna Klos, an ensemble member at Trap Door Theatre, collaborates with Evans to bring this haunting and hilarious piece to life. The production team also includes Richard Norwood for lighting, Suz Evans for set design, Emily Nichelson for costumes, and Laila Eskin for sound design.

A Stellar Cast

The cast of “Ghost Fetus” features Jenn Geiger as Craig, Tia Pinson in the titular role of Ghost Fetus, Lolo Ramos as Whitney, Gus Thomas as Aaron, and Jacqui Touchet as Sarah Jane. Together, they are set to deliver a performance that is described as haunting, hilarious, and heartfelt.

“Ghost Fetus” is presented as part of Trap Door Theatre’s 32nd season, specifically within their Trap Open Series, known for pushing artistic boundaries and providing a platform for bold new voices. The theatre itself, located at 1655 W. Cortland St. in Chicago, is recognized as a premier venue for avant-garde theatre, creating immersive and often otherworldly atmospheres for its audiences.

This production features a strobe effect, and content warnings for sexual topics are noted.
