Among the highly anticipated arrivals is Buttercup, slated to open its doors in the bustling South Loop. This new establishment is envisioned as an inviting all-day cafe and cocktail bar, designed to cater to the varied rhythms of urban life, from morning coffee to evening drinks and dinner. The beverage program is under the direction of Luke DeYoung, who brings a distinctive focus on amaro-focused craft cocktails, suggesting a sophisticated yet approachable drink menu. Complementing the drinks is the kitchen helmed by chef Alex Carnovale, who will be serving Italian cuisine. The combination of expertly crafted cocktails and Italian fare in a versatile all-day setting positions Buttercup to become a notable fixture in the rapidly developing South Loop neighborhood, offering a fresh option for casual meetings, leisurely lunches, and lively evenings.

Midwestern Roots in Lincoln Park: Ox Bar & Hearth

Moving north, Lincoln Park is set to welcome Ox Bar & Hearth, a collaboration between chef John Asbaty and restaurateur Alain Uy. This venture centers on Midwestern fare made with local ingredients, emphasizing a connection to regional agriculture and culinary traditions. A defining feature of the restaurant will be its wood-burning hearth, promising dishes imbued with the unique flavors and warmth that only open-fire cooking can provide. The beverage selection has been carefully curated to complement the food, featuring a range of Midwestern spirits, craft beers, and wines, further reinforcing the establishment’s regional identity. Ox Bar & Hearth appears poised to offer a comforting yet refined dining experience, highlighting the richness of local produce and producers through a focus on hearth-cooked dishes and regional drinks, adding a distinct flavor profile to the Lincoln Park dining landscape.

Michelin Expertise Arrives: Adalina Prime

Adding a significant note of high-end culinary artistry to the city’s offerings is Adalina Prime, located at 360 N. Green St. This project involves Michelin Star chef Soo Ahn partnering with seasoned hospitality veterans to create a venue of considerable scale and sophistication. Adalina Prime is designed with multiple distinct spaces to enhance the dining experience, including a welcoming patio, an elegant open-air atrium, and a remarkable two-story wine cellar – a feature that speaks to an extensive and carefully curated wine program. The venue also incorporates private dining rooms for intimate gatherings and events, alongside an exhibition kitchen that allows diners a glimpse into the culinary process. Chef Ahn’s involvement signals an ambitious culinary direction, likely bringing the precision and innovation associated with Michelin-starred cooking to a grand setting, positioning Adalina Prime as a major destination for fine dining and special occasions.

A Gold Coast Icon Returns: Carmine’s Reimagined

On the Gold Coast, a much-anticipated return is on the horizon as the iconic Gold Coast Italian restaurant Carmine’s is set to reopen this summer. This reopening follows a substantial multimillion-dollar renovation, indicating a significant investment in revitalizing the beloved establishment. The renovation promises a revitalized layout designed to enhance the guest experience. Key features of the reimagined Carmine’s will include new indoor and outdoor bars, offering more options for casual drinks and social gatherings. A highlight of the renovation is a new terrace overlooking Rush Street, providing prime outdoor seating and views of the vibrant streetscape. The updated restaurant will boast a total seating capacity of 366, ensuring it can accommodate a large volume of diners. The return of Carmine’s, following such a significant overhaul, is expected to be a major event for the Gold Coast, bringing back a familiar name with enhanced facilities to a prominent location.

As Summer 2025 approaches, Chicago’s restaurant scene is clearly in a state of dynamic growth. The arrival of Buttercup in the South Loop, Ox Bar & Hearth in Lincoln Park, Adalina Prime at 360 N. Green St., and the grand reopening of Carmine’s on the Gold Coast collectively represent a diverse array of new culinary experiences. These openings not only expand the city’s dining map but also reinforce Chicago’s status as a premier global destination for food enthusiasts, promising an exciting season of discovery for local diners and visitors.
